<What you get/>

  • Test and build signal inside your own perimeter, on self-hosted infrastructure

  • Failure alerts with the context needed to triage, filtered to state changes

  • A release channel that records decisions during deployment windows

  • Integration coordinated with your platform team rather than installed around them

What it is

Mattermost is a self-hosted, open-source alternative to Slack. It appears in engagements where data residency or security policy rules out a vendor cloud — regulated industries, government work, clients with strict infosec review. Functionally it fills the same role in a QA workflow: alerts, triage threads and build notifications.

How PerfectQA uses Mattermost

Mattermost comes up on engagements where messaging has to stay self-hosted — regulated sectors, defence-adjacent work, or clients whose data policy rules out third-party SaaS chat. Functionally our setup mirrors what we do in Slack: build and test failures routed to a dedicated channel with enough context to act on, filtered to changes in state rather than every run, and a release channel that becomes the shared timeline during a deployment window. The practical difference is that integration work happens against a self-managed instance, so we coordinate with the client’s platform team on webhooks and permissions rather than installing an app ourselves. For clients in that position, having QA signal inside their own perimeter is often a hard requirement rather than a preference, and it is worth confirming early because it shapes what other tooling is permissible too.
